Podhlavický mlýn welcomes you to a quiet corner of the Českodubsko region, an area rich in history, tradition, and beautiful natural scenery. With respect for the past, we have transformed the original mill from the early 17th century into a boutique hotel that combines the charm of history with the needs of today. The result is a unique space that guarantees unforgettable moments of relaxation with a feeling of luxury and rest.

Research has confirmed the existence of the Podhlavický mill based on written reports dating back to 1607. The mill was therefore built at the end of the 16th century at the latest and was linked to the property at No. 15 in Hlavice. It was a rustic mill.
The building was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648). It was rebuilt in 1713 and subsequently registered as a manorial mill. The oldest part of the preserved building dates back to this period, namely the masonry of the water wheel chamber and the associated drainage channel. The rest of the building was most likely a timber-framed two-story structure, like its older predecessor. The oldest farm buildings surrounding the courtyard were also timber-framed – a barn with a chamber upstairs adjoining the mill, a hayloft, and pigsties. The current ground floor of the mill dates back to its core from the Classicist reconstruction of 1838–1839.
The impetus for the reconstruction was a fire in 1830 and a property transaction six years later, when the Štancík family took over the mill from the Pytloun family and ran it until the 20th century. The overall appearance of the mill, its material design, construction, and details were determined by the reconstruction carried out in 1892, which is documented by archival sources, a faded date on the front gable, and, in particular, the results of dendrochronological analysis. Other minor changes were apparently made in 1919, when the facade and interiors of the residential part were modified, and subsequently during the 1920s.
LAST PODHLAVICE MILLERS
The technological equipment and the latest renovations of the mill date back to 1925–1926, when significant modifications were made to the waterworks, replacing the upper water wheel with a Francis turbine located in a new turbine house directly in the mill.

Since 2015, the mill has been owned by the Pochop and Meduňa families. From the very beginning, the owners had a clear vision: to build a top-class boutique hotel based on family values, preserving local traditions and treating the legacy of their ancestors and the original owners with respect. Their mission is to preserve the renovated mill for future generations and to care for its unique genius loci.
